Last Sunday marked the beginning of the Tree Project’s visioning phase, focusing on the Stranger. Matthew Thompson from Welcome Home (www.welcomehomekw.ca) shared his experiences and reflections in supporting refugees arriving in Canada. Matthew recounted a recent case in which a family with children had been smuggled across the border and then abandoned in downtown Kitchener without any winter clothing. Without supporting organizations like Welcome Home to facilitate a compassionate community response, what would happen to the strangers among us?
The next visioning service, to be held on February 16th, will be exploring the plight of the Prisoner. We will be hearing from Rosemary Redshaw, chaplain at the Grand Valley Institution For Women and two inmates.
A service exploring the Sick is being tentatively planned for March 2nd. On March 9th, we are organizing a service focused on the Homeless. If you are interested in helping organize or contributing to either of these services, please contact Bruce or Dave Petro.
