This month, two Emmanuel grant applications to Ontario’s Seniors Community Program were approved! These programs are intended for seniors throughout the community so it is important that we get the word out to as many people as possible!
Here are the details so far:
Free Seniors Yoga Program
Starting Wednesday, September 17th at 10:30 am, Emmanuel will be hosting a weekly yoga program lead by a certified and registered instructor who completed the VON Canada SMART (Seniors’ Maintaining Active Roles Together) program. The class will be focused on exercises that will improve vitality and decrease the risk of falls. The class will be held in the Hearth Room and a time will be available after the class for sharing refreshments and visiting.
Seniors Pet Adoption Workshops
Senior’s who own pets tend to have lower blood pressure, lower cholesterol levels, and generally better health compared to seniors who don’t own pets. Pets help seniors cope with stress, loneliness and depression. We will be holding two free events for seniors in the community to learn about the advantages of pet ownership as well as assess what kind of pets would best suit them based on their lifestyle and living situation. The first event will be a lunch on Thursday, September 18th in which the Humane Society will be visiting and giving seniors a chance to explore the idea of adopting a pet.
Please contact Ilona, the secretary at Emmanuel to register for either of these events.
