Calling Lakes Centre in Fort Qu’Appelle, Saskatchewan, was one of four United Church of Canada education centres. For over 60 years this sacred place was a centre of transformation and learning for the people of the Prairie provinces. In December 2014 it closed its doors. Leading up to that time, friends of Calling Lakes took every opportunity to gather and say goodbye. They came in person and wrote letters to express their gratitude for the role the centre played in their lives. Throughout its ministry, Calling Lakes Centre was faithfully supported by us, the people of the United Church, through gifts for Mission and Service. Annette Taylor, former director, sends this message: I want to take this opportunity to express deep thanks to all those who have supported the Centre. Your gifts have come in the form of program leadership and participation, donations and prayers. Without your generosity, the transformative work of the Centre would never have been possible. The decision to close the Centre was made with much sadness and regret. It was also made with the knowledge that the Spirit that calls us was present in this sacred place long before the valley was formed and will remain here even after the Centre is gone. This same Spirit will help us find new ways to prepare for transformational ministry in our communities and in our world. Thanks to our Mission and Service gifts we made possible 60 years of learning, love, and service at Calling Lakes Centre. Our gifts continue to support six theological schools and three education centres. Please join me in giving generously
Mighty and tender God, through our gifts for Mission and Service we respond to your call to mend the world.
