Emmanuel’s Mission and Service Committee has been discussing refugee sponsorship in light of Syria’s situation. We have been gathering information and sharing it with the congregation, however, no one on the committee feels that they can lead an actual sponsorship. We would like to open up the discussion to the whole congregation to see if anyone, or a group of people feel that they could lead us in undertaking refugee sponsorship. We feel that there is interest in the congregation and also the surrounding community association. The M&S committee would be available to share their experience with interested people. There is also some financial support to provide a start toward fundraising. If you feel that this is something that you would like to consider, please speak to Rev. Bruce Sweet or Carolyn Sullivan from the M&S committee.
We are also aware that Parkminster United Church is considering sponsorship and is seeking more information on the actual process. They would also welcome other congregations in partnership in a sponsorship. If you feel that this is a direction that we should consider, we would also be interested in hearing that feedback.
Please take this opportunity to share your thoughts on this important topic. At this point, we are gathering information from the congregation and any formal decision regarding sponsorship would need formal approval from the church.
