We have recently raised $3000 from the local community for the sponsorship of a family from Syria. There will be a big fundraising push coming this week, as we go door to door with flyers, and get posters placed in local buildings.
In January, we will be creating subcommittees that will consist of both members of EUC and the surrounding MacGregor Albert community. Here is a list of the possible committees, keeping in mind that some may end up being amalgamated as we learn more about our mandate;
- Settlement services
- Language training
- Job training
- Child Care
- Crisis & Trauma
If you think that you would like to help out with one of the above committees, please contact Jennifer Mclellan or Jennifer Lloyd-Smith .
This is the update that went to the Community Association
Between the Emmanuel Church and MACA, we have raised a total of $27 550.00. **a portion of this will be used on an ‘as needed’ basis from the church**
You may notice that the amount we would like to raise is slightly higher than that shared in our earlier emails. The reason behind this increase is because most sponsor groups waiting to be matched with a family have raised enough money for a family of 4-6 members. We thought if we could raise a bit more, then we could try to bring a larger family to Canada or try to keep a family together.
We also wanted to take this opportunity to let you know that many information sessions and networking opportunities are coming up. Heather, Jen, Jennifer and I wondered if any of you may be interested in attending. If you are, could you let us know? We would be happy to put together a distribution list and to send out the sessions as we become aware of them. Sometimes they come with very little notice.
Emmanuel Church remains in contact with the United Church of Canada and we are hopeful that we will be provided with a family in the New Year. We will keep you updated.
