This year, the monthly collection for Emmanuel’s Children’s Project will be directed to Waterloo Wayside, an emerging organization that creates and fosters community. Wayside is focused on supporting seniors, youth and those experiencing those experiencing housing or income instability, seniors and youth.
When it was created in 2014, Waterloo Wayside began managing and coordinating many of the Emmanuel local outreach programs including, the Bridgeport Café, the Sharewear program, the Food Bag program and the medical clinic. Since then, Wayside has turned to the broader community for support, drawing volunteers and donations from the universities, local neighbourhoods and other faith groups. Wayside has also been successful in securing government funding to start programs like the Seniors Chair Yoga and the Seniors Music Care program.
Choosing Wayside now for the Children’s Project seems very appropriate as Wayside’s focus this year is on building community youth programming. In partnership with Life Change Adventures and Innovative Wellness, Wayside is starting an after school program on January 18th through a grant from Waterloo Region’s Healthy Kids Community Challenge. It is certainly a great way to start the year.
Thank you for supporting Waterloo Wayside through this year’s Children’s Project.
