This past week was very exciting. The first set of profiles of Syrian families waiting for private sponsorships were provided to us by the United Church of Canada. Although we reviewed many files, and ‘bid’ on one family, we were not successful in getting a match We are told that more profiles will be available in the coming weeks.
Our MacGregor Albert Neighbours have been very generous, donating over $19,000. We presently have the resources to sponsor a family of between 6 and 8 members.
The number one priority right now is to secure appropriate and affordable housing.
A special 1½ hour Sponsorship Training Session will be offered for anyone who is going to be involved in any of the working groups or directly with the family.
Finally, our fearless community leader, Heather Read, has created a very comprehensive Newcomer Orientation Plan. It sets out 27 different task/priorities.
Please contact Jennifer McLellan or Jennifer Lloyd-Smith to share or receive information or to participate in the training opportunity.
